Six Centres Now Licensed to Deliver Ex14 Responsible Person Module

Since the inaugural Ex14 course in August 2016, over 90 candidates have undertaken the new CompEx Ex14 Responsible Persons Course.


The UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) EC&I Team is very supportive of this new course which aims to provide guidance for existing Responsible Persons and those with aspirations to attain this role, to assist these key individuals understand and manage their legal responsibilities.


SME's with appointed Responsible Persons who require to strengthen their understanding of managing equipment and persons in explosive atmospheres would benefit significantly from this course and engagement.


The six centres licensed to deliver Ex14 are:


  • ExVeritas - Wrexham
  • Endress+Hauser - Manchester
  • Forth Valley College - Falkirk
  • Intertek - Chester
  • Hornbill - Neath
  • Protechnis - Stokesley

Equipment Asset Registers, Site Inspection and Defect Management and the management of staff and sub-contractor competencies is an integral part of the Responsible Person's duties.


CompEx Ex14 provides guidance to understand and manage these key responsibilities. User candidates have reported that the course provides a much needed interaction with like minded individuals to share their own experiences in regard to management of assets, their inspections and any subsequent defects recorded that have to be planned for rectification.


The 4-Day Course provides a course of instruction with a final assessment and successful candidates are awarded a CompEx Certificate of Core competency for the Ex14 Responsible Person role as defined in the IEC Standard 60079 Part 14 Annex 'A'.


An international version of the Ex14 Responsible Person Module is currently being finalised and its launch will be communicated via this website.
