Aug 31, 2017

Martin Jones CompEx Operations Manager from JTLimited – the Internationally Accredited CompEx Certification Body – presented Iain Dove (27) from Edinburgh, with his CompEx Ex 01-04 Hazardous Area certificate on Thursday 31 August 2017.

It is fitting the landmark was reached by a candidate from Forth Valley College as its award winning CompEx Training team this year celebrated 20 years of working in an approved CompEx centre, delivering the best possible range of JTLimited accredited CompEx electrical courses. Iain, an Instrument Technician with North British Distillery Company, said: “I was surprised to hear that I was the 60,000 candidate to achieve the certificate. It is good to know that this number of electrical engineers and other industry professionals are now competent in this field from a health and safety point of view. “I enjoyed the course. It is full on, but you get to do a lot of practical exercise and attain a lot of important knowledge. FVC’s training centre is really well set up and any questions you have get explained fully. Having this qualification has definitely helped me in my career.”

Martin Jones, CompEx Operations Manager at JTLimited, part of the JTL Group, said: “We are very proud that we have reached 60,000 Ex 01-04 Gas and Vapours certificates and it was a privilege to present this landmark certificate to Iain at Forth Valley College. “We have grown our competency programmes worldwide over the last 25 years and now have 60 licensed CompEx centres where we are providing core competency validation through safe working practices for workplaces that contain explosive atmospheres, to help protect both the workforce and the capital asset much better. “We are also very happy that the presentation and landmark candidate was achieved here at Forth Valley College as they are an excellent team and have just celebrated their 20th anniversary of providing CompEx courses. “FVC are leading the way and were one of the first colleges to deliver the Ex 14 Responsible Persons course over the last 12 months, which is assisting both the regulatory authority (HSE) and the top tier of management within industries that contain hazardous areas.”

Alistair McKean, Lead Commercial Trainer at Forth Valley College said: “We were delighted to welcome Martin here to present this certificate to Iain, who was a great candidate on our CompEx 01-04 course. At Forth Valley College our award winning CompEx team are passionate about what we do and for JTLimited to reach this milestone here, is a great honour and excellent recognition of the work we do here. “We are delighted to work so closely with JTLimited and deliver their CompEx courses and look forward to strengthening our relationship even further in the future.” Based upon the IEC Standards, primarily IEC 60079: Parts 10; 14 & 17, CompEx is the global solution for Competency Validation and Certification for Electrotechnical & Mechanical craftspersons who need to develop and demonstrate their competency in the selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres, through an internationally industry recognised and certificated core competency validation scheme.
